All the hard work and learning of the French shipyard from the previous four models have allowed them to develop the smaller sibling of the Excess 14, the first of the third generation of Excess catamarans. The designers have succeeded in making this the most complete and modern model of the brand, despite its smaller size. The high-value innovations detailed below have once again allowed the brand to surpass itself.
All the new contributions had a clear objective: more dynamism among the elements to increase performance. In both the exterior and interior design, we see the effectiveness of simplicity under the concept of "less is more."
The result is a very agile Excess that unleashes its potential right from the moment it leaves the port. It is the ideal catamaran for crossing oceans with the entire family and friends. Every element has been carefully studied to fulfil its purpose: from the shape of the hulls, the weight distribution, the interior layout, and even the ergonomics for everyday situations.
Some ideas from previous Excess models remain in this new vessel, such as making it possible for one person to handle the boat with the controls directed to the helm station. Like the Excess 14, the Excess 13 improves the 360-degree visibility compared to the first-generation models. The current helm station offers the convenience of having good visibility and complete control of the surroundings in one place. Other details optimising the experience include the advanced sail adjustment system and the performance-oriented rigging.
As with all Excess models, the helm responds very directly, allowing the sailor to feel a strong connection with the sea. These sensations are exponentially increased by the security provided by its precision. The forward-facing chart table keeps the helmsman in contact with all the elements of the saloon and allows for full visibility of the surroundings.
Like its predecessor, the Excess 13 uses the asymmetric hull principle so characteristic of the brand. With a narrower beam below the waterline, it achieves excellent performance by improving its glide through the water. This is done while surprisingly maintaining the habitable space, featuring large, tall cabins with enviable and spacious bathrooms, especially the owner's cabin in its three-cabin configuration.
Whichever way you look at it, the more you see it, the more you like it, discovering amazing details like the retractable soft top. Even when anchored, the Excess 13 transforms into the ideal platform for all nautical activities. Access to the sea via the foldable platforms combines safety and efficiency. The impressive and innovative exterior storage volumes allow for a wide range of equipment to be carried. With greater comfort, water sports enthusiasts can enjoy diving and snorkelling, while the more adventurous can equip themselves for wingfoiling and kitesurfing.
Continuing with the "less is more" idea, a rainwater recovery system has been installed on the cabin roof, storing it in a tank for use in an emergency.
All these great innovations that the Excess 13 brings refer to another aspect we haven’t mentioned yet: its structure. The creativity of the designers has paid off by lightening the boat’s weight. The final result is visible even with your eyes closed, as the catamaran now has greater responsiveness. Guaranteed emotions due to excellent exterior design work.
Natural light continues to accompany us when entering the interior. In line with the exterior, the design remains modern, dynamic, and efficient. The skill of the Excess 13 lies in the optimisation of the layout, with important living volumes, ample storage spaces, and a considerable structure and positioning of bulkheads, creating significant headroom without compromising the catamaran’s performance.
The saloon and kitchen are accessible from the cockpit, acting as a bridge between the interior and exterior spaces to meet any need, regardless of where we are.
There are two versions: one with three cabins and one with four, accommodating six to twelve overnight guests. The owners' hull combines a spacious cabin with a large bathroom in the bow and, a rare feature for a boat of this size, a large wardrobe suitable for long stays, different activities, and varied climates. It also includes an ergonomically designed desk area with natural light. In addition to the chart table, it offers a second workspace, allowing professional life to blend with a passion for the sea.
The designers of the Excess 13 are also sailors and know perfectly well that comfort means being able to enjoy a well-deserved rest, ready to embark on new and exciting adventures. For this reason, comfort is an element always present in every model of the brand, and for this occasion, the Excess 13 stands out for the increase in storage, thanks to the optimisation of space.
To increase the feeling of lightness while sailing, with the intense exercise of reducing materials and the motto “less is more,” small innovations have been implemented that together make a difference. For example, an efficient ventilation system reduces the power demand of the air conditioning. Another example is the cabin doors, which disappear from view when not needed. In fact, the cabin doors have a dual function as both the entry door and the wardrobe door. When one is open, the other is closed. This may seem anecdotal, but with fewer materials, it optimises both space and the catamaran’s performance.
- Family-friendly: All Excess models are built with all the comforts and safety features to share the most exciting nautical experiences with family and friends. In each new model, you can sense that they have always enjoyed the challenging purpose of creating a better catamaran. The high performance achieved by the Excess 14 with its asymmetric hulls was spectacular, and the high performance of the Excess 13 with less length but more interior space feels magical. Due to the quality and originality of its catamarans, at Hermanos Guasch we feel very aligned with this brand, which recently, in September 2024, awarded us the "Best Global Retail Dealer" title.
- Resolute: Every Excess is the result of a new story of surpassing expectations. The construction process of the Excess 13 began by studying the requests of the 30 most enthusiastic members of the brand. From in-depth and extensive interviews with various members of Excess, distributors, demanding owners, and other experts, the new catamaran emerged between the lines.
- Exciting: The Excess 13 has focused on achieving excitement through greater agility. The responsiveness has been increased by lightening its structure without compromising strength. To enhance the sailing sensations, the number of materials has also been reduced, finding new solutions to achieve greater harmony with the elements. Excess is a young brand created with the challenging purpose of making catamarans as spacious and comfortable as possible without losing the thrill of sailing, and they have done it again.
