Covid-19.
This is the word that has filled the most headlines in recent months. There is no need to go into details that we all know by now. Sailing has not been spared its effects either, although, as sailors, we know that every storm is followed by calm. The end of the tunnel that we can now glimpse still requires caution, thoughtful yet agile decision-making, and the courage to face a certain amount of uncertainty. If, as a society, we continue to act responsibly within our sphere of influence, as we have done so far, everything suggests that the storm will soon subside.
We sail in the same boat, on different levels: at the country level, the sector level, and the user-sailor level. Aware that there is no recipe today dictating the path ahead, there are elements that determine a hopeful future.
They are called hope, optimism, solidarity, resilience, determination… a positive and responsible attitude that shows our commitment to the future, a commitment to collective effort to face this long challenge. It is not enough to merely endure. We must act and contribute—“we must get involved”—each in our area of activity, with our effort, perhaps in our immediate environment. In the case of Hermanos Guasch, we decided to contribute from day one, donating our protective equipment and obtaining more for nearby hospitals. But we also did this in collaboration with the rest of the Spanish nautical sector, working hand in hand, led by ANEN, showing mutual support. Internally, we have also ensured the safety of our team while guaranteeing their economic stability in such uncertain times.
The situation we are living through is a challenge, which we face with strength, serenity, professionalism, and hope. And it is this hope and strength that we want to share with the entire nautical community. Sailing is a unique sector, from shipyards to novice sailors, we know it. And now that we begin to see the rays of light, it is becoming clear those advantages we all know: having a boat is having a refuge of freedom, we escape massification, we represent a safe and familiar space, and we are, ultimately, a “low-contact industry". Keep that concept in mind.
As a sector, we need these innate benefits to be recognized by society and for people to be encouraged to explore the wide range of activities and ways to enjoy the sea, whether renting a boat, taking a sailing course, or even buying a boat to fully enjoy the freedom that sailing offers.
As the nautical industry, we are preparing for the tomorrow we foresee. Each passing day brings us closer to enjoying freedom again, with family, friends, at sea. With enthusiasm, we are preparing new offers, services, restructuring protocols—all to adapt to the new times ahead, ideas that will make us reimagine and experience sailing again. In short, to enjoy a summer at sea like we haven’t for a long time: appreciating every moment lived. That is the attitude of Hermanos Guasch.
We are clear: we will sail together. You, us, everyone. An optimism that allows us to keep dreaming, planning, and embracing a passion like never before: sailing, feeling freedom, the wind, fishing, wakeboarding, anchoring in a cove, sunbathing on deck, jumping into the blue sea… We will move forward if, at every step of the present, we inject doses of hope for the future. And yes, we will return with a different perspective, but we will reconnect with those companions of journeys and experiences that are boats and which we long for so much. Companions who, right now, have become the perfect allies to enjoy the summer in peace.
